LaSalle Canyon
Length
1 - 2 hr
Difficulty
Moderate
About the Hike:
The shortest route to LaSalle Canyon, one of Starved Rock's most popular waterfalls, is about 2 miles out and back. LaSalle Canyon falls is one of the only waterfalls in the park you can view from behind and easily stand under.
Suggested Route:
Park at parkman's plain entrance located near the center of the park. Follow the trailhead down to the river trail and keep going until you reach the the bridge. Do not cross the bridge, instead, go left and head into the canyon.
Difficulty:
Moderate
There are multiple staircases on the way down to the river trail, some are a lot longer than others with many steps. Erosion has caused part of the trail closer to the canyon to be very thin. Extra caution should be taken near this point. Natural footholds and staircases can become very icy and dangerous in the winter.
