About the Hike:

Find out how Starved Rock State Park got its name by hiking the short loop up to the top of the rock. Learn about the history of the park and see stunning views of the Illinois River. This hike takes you right by the Visitors Center as well. During the winter season, be on the lookout for bald eagles soaring over the Illinois River looking for fish!

Suggested Route:

Start in the Visitor Center parking lot and walk past the Visitor Center. Take the first left you can and proceed up the stairs. After reaching the top, take the first right you can and make your way to the top of the Rock. The trail up top is a loop and will bring you down the same stairs you go up.

Difficulty:

Moderate

Relatively short hike on either concrete or wood boardwalk. Stairs on the way up will be slippery with snowpack/ice.
