Starved Rock Events: 2025 Lineup

Every season brings something special to Starved Rock State Park, and 2025 is packed with events that will make your time on the trails even more memorable. Whether you're a dedicated hiker, a wildlife enthusiast, or just looking for a fun way to connect with nature, there’s something for everyone. From sunrise hikes and wildlife encounters to hands-on art workshops and seasonal celebrations, this year’s lineup offers countless opportunities to explore, learn, and experience the beauty of Starved Rock.


Here’s a look at what’s coming up—mark your calendars and get ready for another unforgettable year in the great outdoors!



Winter & Early Spring (Jan - March 2025)

  • Starved Rock Art Show (Feb 2-28) Local artists showcase their nature-inspired works, with the Art Show Award Ceremony happening on March 1 (10-11 AM).

  • Nature’s Make & Take: Simple Composting (March 2, 1-3 PM) Looking to live more sustainably? Learn how to compost at home in this hands-on session.


Spring Awakening (April - May 2025)

  • Wildflowers & Waterfalls Sunrise Hike (May 3, 7 AM) A must for hikers and photographers, this early morning trek offers stunning views of blooming wildflowers and cascading waterfalls.

  • Amazing Animals: Live Animal Program (April 27, 11:30 AM & 1 PM) Get up close with incredible wildlife at this interactive experience hosted at the Visitors Center.

  • Backyard Landscaping for Wildlife (April 6, 1-3 PM) Learn how to attract birds, butterflies, and other wildlife to your yard while promoting ecological balance.


Summer Adventures (June - August 2025)

  • Junior Ranger Day (June 28, 10 AM - 2 PM) A family-friendly event packed with activities designed to inspire the next generation of nature lovers.

  • Sunrise in the Prairie Hike (July 13, 7 AM) Greet the day with a refreshing morning hike through the prairie lands, taking in the golden hues of the sunrise.

  • Starved Rock Saplings Programs (Various Dates, 10 AM) Designed for kids, these interactive programs explore topics like “The Magic of Dandelions” (June 7), “Rockin’ the Rock Cycle” (July 5), and “Curious Crows” (August 9).


Fall & Winter Wonders (Sept - Dec 2025)

  • Ghosts of Starved Rock’s Past Night Hikes (Oct 25, Various Times) Step into the park’s eerie history with guided night hikes that bring Starved Rock’s haunted past to life.

  • Nature’s Make & Take: Edible Wild Plants & Wild Wine (Sept 7, 1-3 PM) A hands-on experience where you’ll learn how to forage for wild plants and craft your own unique flavors.

  • Starved Rock Photography Show (Dec 8-31) Calling all photographers! Display your best nature shots and browse stunning captures from fellow adventurers.
